Not subject to repair:

  • limiting thinning of the upper decorative layer after scraping;
  • significant cracks in the wooden die;
  • breaking the castle at the board.

The appearance of the latest defects may be caused by a violation of the rules for laying parquet. When laying new flooring, it is important to take into account past mistakes and correct them.

Restoration work is advisable for the following damage:

  • violation of the upper decorative layer (if the structure of the board is not affected);
  • minor chips.

To restore the floor, you can use several methods. How to do the repair of the floor with your own hands is determined by the nature of the damage.

Parquet oil coating

For work, you may need a tool: grinding and scraper machines, a construction vacuum cleaner, a chisel with a hammer, drill, spatulas, brushes / rollers. It is recommended to use personal protective equipment: respirators, special glasses.

Repair and restoration of parquet is carried out with materials: decorative coating elements, putties, glue, varnishes / mastics, stains / oils.

In principle, restoration is considered to be updating the surface layer, replacing / repairing an old wooden die.

Restoration of a shade of a decorative layer

Over time, wood changes color - it becomes darker and unattractive. Periodically it is necessary to update the color. This is a simple process that does not require special skills.

  1. The baseboard is removed.
  2. Using the scraper / grinder, the old varnish is removed. For quality work, it is recommended to use an angle grinder. As an alternative, use a building hair dryer. A stream of hot air heats the layer of varnish and it is easy to remove it with a spatula.
  3. Vacuum the surface thoroughly.
  4. To eliminate strong roughnesses, a grinder with an emery cloth of fine granularity passes over the surface. The entire floor is re-vacuumed perfectly.
  5. If it was planned to change the shade of the floor, then at this stage the wood is treated with wood stain and left to dry.
  6. Using a brush or roller, the first varnish layer is applied (brush movements repeat the lines of wood fibers). After drying, the floor is polished with zero sandpaper and vacuum cleaned.

It is recommended to apply about 8-9 layers of varnish. At the same time, all stages of restoration are strictly carried out: from using a vacuum cleaner to grinding the surface.

For the final drying of the varnish layers, at least three days will be required. While we are restoring the floor, we close the doors and windows tightly to eliminate a draft.The optimum air temperature in the room should be 17-22 ° C, and humidity within 40-70%.

Do-it-yourself scratch restoration on the floor

Such damage occurs most often when moving furniture or if there are animals in the apartment. There are several ways to repair a floor. Minor surface damage can be repaired with a repair kit for piece parquet or with wax. Deep scratches of considerable width are removed in several stages.

Parquet Polishing

First, the surface is cleaned of varnish. Then, the restored areas carefully cycle. From one time, it may not be possible to qualitatively eliminate the damage, therefore, it is advisable to go through the hitching several times in the right place.

The entire area of the room is slowly and gently vacuumed, covered with a decorative protective compound. All stages of varnishing of floors are carried out several times.

How to eliminate potholes and chips?

In the manufacture of parquet, hardwood (oak, maple, ash, hornbeam) is usually used. However, with strong impacts, even restoration of oak flooring may be necessary. During restoration work, the following actions are performed:

  • the old varnish is removed and the areas to be restored are established;
  • the surface is cycling. At the same time, wood of such a thickness is removed to eliminate potholes and bumps. If a non-uniform shade occurs, it is necessary to loop the surface repeatedly;
  • putty is used to eliminate chips. To mask the restored area, you can add to the mixture fine wood dust obtained from scraping of parquet. To apply the composition, use a wide spatula.

Once the putty is dry, you can begin the process of grinding and varnishing the floor.

How to remove swollen parquet sections

Similar defects in the apartment may occur periodically. If you exclude flooding or wetting of the floor area, it means that during the installation process there were violations of the work technology.

Local parquet repair can be done as follows:

  • the damaged area is heated by a building hairdryer until glue / mastic smells appear;
  • a board of the appropriate size is laid on the floor and a load weighing at least 10 kg is placed on it. The whole structure is left to stand for about a day;
  • then the structure is cleaned and the repaired surface is evaluated. If the unevenness remains, then the procedure is repeated.

The cause of wood bloating may be the absence of cracks near the walls around the perimeter of the room. To prevent the further appearance of bloating of the tree, it is recommended to disassemble the entire parquet, leave it to completely dry naturally. Then the floor covering is re-laid.

Restoration of old deformed planks

Often, separate broken dies (or those lagging behind the base) appear on the floor. To fix such damage, do the restoration of the old parquet:

  • the varnish layer is removed and dangling wooden elements come to light;
  • if there are cracks of more than 4 mm between the planks, then the planks must be changed (since they are very dry). In cases where the distances between the individual strips are small, they can simply be glued. To do this, glue is squeezed under the slats and left to spend the night under the press;
  • single broken planks are knocked out with a chisel or a hammer (the bar is split in the middle and the remains are taken out). Using a chisel, dried old glue is removed;
  • a protruding spike is cut off on a new die, and it is adjusted to the desired size;
  • glue is applied to the base of the floor. The plate is inserted in such a way that its groove is dressed on the ledge of the adjacent plank and firmly pressed to the floor;
  • the restored area is covered with a plank and left overnight under pressure;
  • parquet repair ends with putty, grinding, varnishing.

A known drawback of parquet is creaking. Causes of unpleasant sounds can be loose tablets, voids under a layer of wood.If the entire floor creaks, then it must be shifted again, observing all stages of the restoration. To eliminate individual voids, it is necessary to drill a creaking bar and glue under the cover.

Sometimes deformation of the decorative coating can be caused by an increase / accumulation of moisture in the base under the parquet. In this case, do-it-yourself parquet repair will consist in dismantling it and laying the vapor barrier on the floor. These measures will prevent further damage to the floor.

Replacing Parquet Dies

To extend the life of the natural floor, it is recommended to periodically restore its decorative surface layer. To do this, the surface is washed thoroughly to remove traces of dust, grease and dirt. A new protective layer is applied. Moreover, places that have a more intense load can be covered with two layers of varnish.
